Meet this 1960 Meteor Ranch Wagon - one super rare Canadian built ride that is cruising again!
You've probably met a few of Jim Wagnon's very cool Ford Motor Company cars from the 1960s that we've already featured. If not, check them out in the links below. This is one of the rarest in his collection and is becoming his "go to" daily ride around Phoenix! It still wears its original patina but has had a heart transplant with a few upgrades. Check it out and let us know what you think?

I saw this car in Vancouver when I moved there in the early 90s. I remember remarking to my friend "Look at that massive station wagon!". Whatever made it move from North Bay to Vancouver is the only reason it survived.

It appears the 1960 model of the Meteor was a fairly subdued modification of the 1960 Ford . My recollection is that in some other years the Meteor styling was a bit more flamboyant. Thanks for sharing this.

Will watch when i get more time. Neat ride never see those around! You added the scoop Im guessing? Loved the 60s-70 wagons with big engines lotsa memories as a kid. Early 70s Ford station wagon my aunt bought new. Best smelling interior ever never forgot it. Our 65 283 Chevy II wagon had its own but....weirdo chit I know Only car guys get it. Op...miss the summers when families woul travel state to state sight seeing camping everyone did it. So much fun, good memories. 2bbl 2.xx gear mpg wasnt bad on the open highway!

Biggest problem we would see when those came in the shop (mid-late 80s) was those lean burn systems...like Fords duraspark?? always went goofy . In ca so they had to keep them and those crappy pellet style cats to pass smog. Great looking cars! Op....I think those wheels you have were sold by Western Wheel. Few places made em 1st car a 67 rs I got late 80s had those up front they were indentical.

Well Guy, While clearly avoiding Chrysler Products as much as possible you goofed. First the 66/67 Chargers while heavy were ANYTHING but slugs and the obvious engine choices proved this & we know that for fact however not only gorgeously styled you should check out the INTERIOR of one with full- length console. Every nuance of the interior caused most people to grasp. The perfect 4 equal gushes, power window switches etc. would force one back outside to make certain they were NOT in an advanced U.F.O. Virtually perfect- bumper to bumper. We STILL want one and yes, the hidden headlamps were MOTOR driven. Now while barely touching Dodge Coronet R/T, Plymouth Sport Fury G.T. and Chrysler 300 Hurst, you noted THEE MOST gorgeous, sexy yet bold beauty a.k.a. 68/69 Charger but what, the 70 was just a dream? No, after several 69 Chargers, we found a deal [back in the mid 70's] on a 70 Charger 500- no not with the ugly nose/rear backlite but essentially a 69 R/T minus those fantastic nameplates. The only slightly downside was the large full wraparound front bumper which- from the side appeared to make the car look a tad shorter- otherwise a 69. Bumper was part of a Fed. mandate. Quick 3rd, That bronze beautiy in our storage didn't exist at a time of massive street & Nascar controversy? Oh yes, it's officially known as a cousin to the Charger Daytona•••Plymouth Road Runner Superbird. It is a SUPER BIRD for sure. I shy from making a fuss about your omission regarding '70 Road Runner and G.T.X.! Thusly, other than being a Ford/G.M. fan•aric, well done. Make the next an ALL inclusive MoPar gig eh?😊

Note we forgot: Chrysler by then was 100% unibody construction across the board and this literal life saver including my own DID add weight to everything from Gen.1 Barracudas right on up and across "Pentastar production"-p.s. sorry for the comment- turned- novel😂

@@IfThisCarCouldTalk Do you know if any Edsels were sold new in Canada? You are right about the 1960 Edsels in terms of numbers built - by a lot, but I wonder if more of the '60 Edsels were saved than the '60 Meteors? Cars of this era rusted bady. I've see 4 or 5 1960 Edsels in person, but only one '60 Meteor. I'm not Canadian. Maybe the 1960 Meteors were popular and were preserved.

I think the engine that was under utilized was the 410 that came in the Mercury Parklane. I think that with the CJ heads 2x4 intake and the 390 375-401 hp solid cam with header type manifolds could have been the jack of all trades engine as the base replacement for the 390. Setup that way it would have been a 410 hp and 480 ft lb police interceptor and a good base for the pony cars. I built one for a friend who had a Marauder S-55 with a 4speed and it was a handful. It could have had the CJ hydraulic cam for a quiet 375 hp big car engine and for trucks a 410 at 9.5:1 and the regular hydraulic cam would have been a good 350 hp 465 ft lb truck engine. The alphabet soup of engines in the 70s was unessesary. The FE with Cleveland heads would have stomped every thing as a 428 or with a 4.25 stroke a 460 with Cleveland heads. The 385 , really? They could have been around into the 90s . They are still here now….

Fun Fact: The 60 full-sized Ford cars, same sheet metal as a Meteor, was one year body because it was too wide. The car, at 81½ inches, were actually wider than normal limits, and technically should have been sold with orange “clearance” lights on the roof. LOL

Today the hand of man doesn't set foot in the design studio! The fifties were the prettiest cars for sure. Thank you!

I graduated high school in 1961 and February of that year I bought my first car, a 1955 Chev Bel-Air 2dr HT for $300 from the estate of a neighbor. In fact I had gone for a ride in the car the first day she had owned it. Sold it for $500 in 1964 when I replaced it with a 1964 Chev Impala SS w/327 ci 300hp and four speed. Partial to Chevrolet and loved my "55 but today I would have to say I like the "56 just a little bit better, based on taillights and side chrome. If I had to pick one year of the "50's it definitely would be "56. Take any of the manufacturers and for the "50's I would say "56 models were across the board the best.

I have my aunt and uncles 69 LTD that has the stock 390 with the 2 barrel carb. It is a smooth running engine with plenty of power even with the 2150 carb.

Sorry but I truly think you missed two gems on the upper scale , the 1950 Chrysler Imperial , with the full package, of course. A close second would be the best looking Cadillac ever produced the 1957 Sedan De Ville , but as I said upper scale , not affordable to the working class American back then.

Beautiful, clean, fresh, original Flight Sweep styling for 1955-56, for Chrysler's FORWARD LOOK by Virgil M. Exner Sr.

Fun watch, I missed the Ames Performance, Di-Noc, Wescott's and Hoops. I built the Ala Kart as a kid --- the real one looked much better. LOL

My Dad bought a 1969 Skylark like this one brand new. It had a vinyl roof, 350 4 barrel and a automatic transmission. He used it to tow a trailer to transport building materials for a house he was building at the beach. He got a lot of use out of that car and traded it in on a Plymouth station wagon in 1978.

@@IfThisCarCouldTalk I remember sitting in his lap when I was six and driving that Skylark over the bridge from Southport to Oak Island. My Mom was in the floor yelling " Morris I can't believe you're letting him drive over this bridge". My Dad was just laughing. That was back in 1975. A totally different world back then. I miss my Dad and the way life was. Thanks for the video.

You put on a good show of classic American automobiles. There are too many to list.
